I've been working all week in town. So I haven't had much chance to take a rest.
And wouldn't you know it...Saturday was beautiful!
No rest today either!
Today the goal was the headwaters of the Chilkat River.
We decided to take the kelsall logging road up as far as we could, so we could get further up the river faster.
THAT DIDN'T WORK.
Shortly after heading out, we run across a cow and calf moose running down the trail.
That always slows you down, because they don't just turn off and leave the trail,
NO.... They run down the middle for a mile or so before they decide to turn.
But you say," how come there's only one moose in the photo?"
Well, because that is a different moose.
If you'd let me finish.....
Just after we left the cow and started to wind on her again, Sean nearly gets broadsided by this moose coming out of the brush!
I don't think either of them were very happy about it.
Well, after getting rid of the third moose, we were back on our way,
But on the very next turn!
WHAT IS THIS!?
It seems a medium avalanche broke loose and just came short of the road, so it pushed some trees over just to make the road unpassable anyway.
Now we must find another way around,
Cool a new adventure!
Going up the avalanche was not feasible, and the ice on the river was decayed, we have discoved we like snow or water, but decayed ice is not a good thing.
It was a bit of fun crossing the river, and now we are in a new area so we must pick our way.
This tree is on the far side of the river from the slide, and the wind from the avalanche is what knocked it down!
Sean sorta thought he knew where he wanted to go, but I think it was the old logger in him,
I am sure glad he blazed the trail, I would hate to see it before he did!
