Jay Nelson - Helisledding
April 30, 01 - Page 1

All strapped up with somewhere to go.
Here is Jay Nelson's 800 Yamahamer.
There is not much snow here anymore but that's what the straps are for.

It was really quite a festive day with the Roadhouse as the center of the last Hurrah.
Jay has been here better than a month waiting for just the right conditions, which just didn't seem to present itself readily.
This was his last chance before the ship went back to Juneau.
The weather started off the day overcast and trying to rain.
It didn't look good.
But by 10:00am it cleared up nicely and proved to be a great opportunity.

Things started happening, and before long Jay and his sled were air lifted out to find the snow.
(what a sled lover won't do to get a good ride!)

Although we Alaskans tend to do things the radical way, this is not a usual occurrence.
Unfortunately I couldn't come up with a good enough reason to get them to take me along, so I had to stay behind like a seaman's housewife.
This was no joyride, this was serious business and much as I hate to say it, this sort of ride separates the men from the boys.
(the men are too smart)
Or is that; "separates the men from their toys?"
