Nataga Hooters
May. 14, 01

I'm not sure how it happened today, the sky was overcast and gray,
I was planning on going to do some work today.
Then at coffee this morning Sean mentioned tomorrow was the last day of hooter hunting.
I guess that's all it took, next thing I know I was driving up the Kelsall logging road, now free of snow.
It is usually quite a trip by sled into the confluence of Nataga creek (the photo)
but today we drove past it and right up the mountain to snow.

Sean is a great one for enjoying the variety the wilderness has to offer.
We came ready for action today,
and had as much fun riding as we did hunting!

We have been to Nataga so many times I can't count,
but today we still found lakes and canyons we haven't been before,
and chasing the "hoot" of grouse is as good a reason as any to investigate new territory!

The first place we went, was back to a tree we have heard a hooter before...
several times!
but even though we have spent a minimum of 20 minuets each time, we just could not spot the little bugger.
This time was no different, so we left him and went looking for easier prey.
This one was only a few trees away.
