When the weather is this good you don't have to wonder if a trip is in order, simply where will it be going today. On this trip Sean, Steven, and I were again joined by Chuck. This is a good sign since most guys only ride with us once. Today we headed up the Big Salmon just to see how far we could get. Here we are on that very nicely groomed porcupine road, heading for devils elbow. |

| This is the Elbow. I have rarely seen this section of river completely froze over, and this time it was as flat as calm lake. In spite of the recent rain, the long cold snap a few weeks ago still shows lingering signs of it's presence. |
| The snow was quite hard, and the river was down. As usual the further up river you get, the taller and steeper the banks get, which compounds the difficulty of each crossing. I have lots of beautiful photos today but don't want to fill the pages with them, this is a looong valley. |

This is our first significant crossing and it seems that most years this is always the place to cross. Here Sean is coaching Steven on exit aim. The water here is faster than it's surface indicates. |
