Part III - Cave Lake

comming off the hill from a great rout out of the Upper Walkers, we crossed the Porcupine road and jumped right over the steep edge into the creek feeding Cave Lake.
This is a rout you take only when you are sure the snow is deep and hard, or you are looking for alot of work and challenge.

You can just see the road at the top left, and the timber we came through, to break out into this first of a series of small meadows before arriving at Cave lake.

I had the privilege of braking trail, and finding the creek bottom unpassable as usual, I elected to side hill the creek which is a desperate choice at best.
One would think that in the timber you would have several options, but being down in here before I can tell you, there is really only one. Not to say a few variations cannot be made, but the rout we have learned to take over time has the least destructive potential.

I left the others to follow my tracks as I made my way through the obstacles.

Once I broke out of the hard part and knew my way was clear, I backtracked my rout wondering why I didn't have company.
I found them together,
Sean was putting his windshield back on. He wasn't saying much, (nothin' one could hear anyway), but the story the others told is with the encouragement they gave him to jump off this huge fallen log, his sled ended up "Turtled in the sun".
Wish I coulda seen that!
Here is a happy Trent comming through the last of the meadows before the lake. Sure hate to see a guy in such a way, who said money can't buy happiness? Stick an RMK between his legs and watch him grin!
With a rig like that he drove right up to the front door while the rest of us looked for empty spaces in the parking lot.
I think he would have driven it right into the cave if he thought it would fit!
