Part III - Cave Lake

The floor of this cave usually is flat and icy, the cave curves sharply to the left and ends just aroun the corner where the back wall drops to the icey floor.

But this time when I stepped onto the ice floor, which you can see here, the whole floor gave way like a sheet of very thin glass, crashing to a floor about 5 feet lower!
Now that was a shock. I almost dropped my lighter.

You can see the black ice on the wall behind Trent as he makes his way to the bottom, the top of the black ice is usually the floorline. As we progressed inward the floor continued to drop away until we ducked under what remained of the usual ice floor now over our heads, and in we went.
The ice formations in this cave are always cool to photograph but this time they just got better!
Like this batch of stalagtites, not quite as cool as Fantasy Cave but plenty cool all the same.
You would think Trevor would be looking at all the cool ice formations, but in fact he didn't have a light and couldn't see a thing...

Especially after I flashed my cammera at him!
