First Ascent

April 15, 2004

42 Degrees F

Here is the view from my driveway. This mountain we call "Baldy", and Walker lake is behind the longer knob with trees.
The upper lakes a bit more right.
We started off today with our 22s and planned on doing an early hooter hunt,
riding the high country and just seeing what would happen.
I shoulda known better, when we "just see what happens" something usually does. and today was no exception.

The sun was warm but not hot, and there was a prevailing wind from the north.
I won't go into the science of why hooters only hoot in the hot sun when the wind aint blowing, but it's true and that's it.
So after not hearing a single hoot we desided to try to climb into our hidden meadows before the sun softened the snow.

I love this high alpine area with the fairways of snow.
We got separated, I turned left Sean went right, and suddenly
your off running down another rabbit trail and can't make yourself stop!

We met up again on a favorite hill that kinda tops out this end of the meadows
for a very nice alpine view of the Walker Lake area.
