Baldy North Face

April 27, 2004

In the 60s F. I'm sure

Less than a week after I made the first ever ascent up Baldy with a sled, some Juneau boys came into the roadhouse talking trash about just coming back from climbing the North Face.
It is always hard to describe just where you were, and these guys are not familiar with the area, so we could not be sure they actually were where we thought they were saying they thought they were.
(is all that clear?)

So of course we had to go see.
The Juneau guys had to leave for home, but with their directions and our knowledge of the area,
we set out to find these infamous tracks...
and do a little hooter hunting on the side, of course.

Hmmm,
with tracks like these, those boys coulda been anywhere!

After climbing into the upper walkers, it did not take much of an eye to see some very distinct tracks where they just weren't supposed to be!
You can see some curved tracks in the same line, those are his coming back down. The rest of the "tracks" like lines are snowball marks from spring snow on a steep face.

Here is the same area from another angle.

There were 2 guys together but only one crazy enough to make a go of the whole stretch, that was Mike.
The whole mountain is steep, but it got really steep after a long run about 3/4 of the way up!
What a climb.
